Johannes Brahms selected this text to begin his monumental — yet deeply personal — choral masterwork: A German Requiem. Written in honor of his mother and his mentor, Robert Schumann, Brahms referred to the work as “A Human Requiem.” The Williamsburg Choral Guild will present the Brahms Requiem in Williamsburg and Newport News accompanied by a professional chamber orchestra with guest vocal soloists.
